This change has made Grand Theft Auto V virtually immortal.
There are new quests and heists, which take days of planning and hours of gameplay to complete. Now, all of that single-player fun can be explored with a friend. Rockstar (its producing company) implemented a multiplayer mode. It’s a game with a sprawling open world, a complete 30-hour main story and limitless possibilities-but that’s not the reason it has been so successful.
The only other single-player game to claim this sort of longevity is Grand Theft Auto V. To this day, Skyrim is well-recognized in pop culture and continues to appear in memes and all over YouTube. It has undergone multiple re-releases and updates for current consoles, and the player base is still strong almost 10 years after its initial release. Released in 2011, Skyrim is a single-player game. However, there is one game that defies this categorization: The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. In recent years, this type of renewal-a remastered edition or a re-release on another console-has become progressively skewed towards multiplayer games. By mixing these types of players, the game achieves longevity.
This shift to newer consoles reinvigorates the player base and introduces newcomers to the series while enticing veterans with a second playthrough. The game gets updated graphics, more press and, most of all, a port to newer consoles. They don’t just echo moments from the films they add a newfound sense of danger to the battles.To have been remastered is a point of pride for video games. The design of those levels is also improved across the board, with the battles organically bringing players near Star Destroyers and other cruisers until they’re practically skimming across the surface. Ships are more responsive, rolls are more intuitive, and while it takes a bit to get used to some of the new nuances, playing some of the battles feels much closer to the World War II dogfights that inspired A New Hope than the kludgy, sluggish battles of the first game. Over the course of the storyline, players pilot the Millennium Falcon, TIE fighters, X-wings, and they’re often full-scale, galactic space battle scenarios. Vehicles were never a high point of the first game, and in the single-player campaign Battlefront II is eager to show off just how much work Criterion Games put into crafting the space battles. While the general responsiveness of the controls was a noticeable improvement, the other big step up is the flying sequences.
